Principal

Jim McGehee is a Principal of Alpha Financial Advisors, a fee-only comprehensive financial planning and investment management firm based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

After completing his bachelors degrees in economics and political science at Florida State University, Jim went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. Following graduation, he built a successful investment management practice in Tampa, Florida. In 1999, Jim joined Sullivan, Bruyette, Speros and Blayney, Inc., a McLean, Virginia based financial planning and investment advisory firm as a planner and portfolio manager.

Since beginning his career in the financial services industry over 13 years ago, Jim has sought to continually improve his skill set by pursuing professional designations. Jim has earned the Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS^®) designation; furthermore, he is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP^®) licensee, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA^®) charter holder.

Jim is an active member of the Charlotte and national chapters of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), the North Carolina Society of Financial Analysts (NCSFA) and the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR). He has written many articles for the publication Prime Times, was featured twice by the Tampa Tribune in its annual Picks of the Pros column, and is a frequent contributor to the Charlotte Observer. Jim lives in south Charlotte with his wife Tara, his daughters Delaney & Darcy, and his son Duncan.
