In addition, he earned a Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning from Kansas State University, with a focus on family business dynamics and succession preparedness. Brett has been an Adjunct University Professor, and he has written articles for several professional publications, including the Journal of Financial Planning. He is a reviewer for several academic journals, and has been quoted in regional and national media. Brett is also a member of the Financial Therapy Association, Family Firm Institute, and the Estate Planning Council of Charlotte.
Brett resides in Tega Cay, is married, has four children, including twin girls attending the University of South Carolina, and has an energetic golden doodle. He enjoys hiking, tennis, travel, boating, kayaking, spending time with family, and just marveling at the stars. He learned to appreciate the outdoors many years ago while becoming an Eagle Scout and today practices mindfulness. He can regularly be found puttering in his yard and working on his vegetable, herb, and pandemic perennial gardens.
