Chief Relationship Officer

Ed Coambs serves as Chief Relationship Officer at Alpha Financial, where he leads the firm’s approach to understanding and navigating the human side of financial decision-making.

Ed is responsible for shaping how relationship dynamics are integrated into the client experience and advisory process—ensuring that clients are not only technically well-served but are also deeply understood and supported as they navigate complex financial and life decisions. In addition to supporting client engagements, Ed also coaches and mentors the Alpha Team to strengthen how advisory teams listen, think, and guide clients through moments of transition, uncertainty, and growth.

Ed brings a multidisciplinary background to this work, holding an MBA from Queen’s University, a Master of Arts in Counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a Master of Science in Financial Planning from Kansas State University. He is a CFP® professional, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and Certified Financial Therapist™ (CFT™).

Prior to joining Alpha Financial, Ed founded Healthy Love and Money, where he developed an approach to financial intimacy that helps couples understand how their personal histories, communication patterns, and values shape their financial lives.

Ed is a past president of the Financial Therapy Association and contributed to the development of the Certified Financial Therapist™ designation. He is also the author of multiple books, including The Healthy Love and Money Way, and a frequent speaker on financial planning, financial psychology, and relationships.

Ed lives in North Carolina with his wife and children.
